An exhaustive collection of the aircraft of an era

It is all that can be expected of the Jane's yearlies at the close of WW2. It covers the Allies well, as good a job as probably could have been done for their enemies, and good coverage of the neutrals. The quality of the photos leaves something to be desired, many look as if this volume was done by scanning the original pages with a pixal-ly deficient copier. On the other hand, it has reasonable views of such well known aircraft as the Gotha Go345 transport, the Faucett F-19 and the Swedish J-22.
There is also a good section on the world's aircraft engines. As is well known, the secret to designing a good plane is to start with a good powerplant. It is much easier to understand the aircraft if one knows something about the engines. The descriptions here are very useful.
Overall, it belongs in the library of anyone who cares about aviation history.

Re-Print of 1946 Jane's

(N.B. - I didn't fact-check my memory of this book which I read several years ago). This is essentially a re-print of the 1946 edition (post WW-II), and thus, contains wartime information and data. It doesn't have post-publication or modern research or data, and is thoroughly a book of its time (1946) in appearance, layout and format. The photographs are copied (looks like negatives weren't available) and as such, of mediocre quality and detail. Drawings and fonts are typical of Jane's for that period. Drawing lines are thicker and not as crisp of contemporary 3-view drawings, and data presentation are different to modern Jane's. If you view it as a re-print of a classic, the price is right; it's not a contemporary, researched book with "new findings." I would recommend it to every library or collection for its historical value. The Foward has information that modern Jane's don't include anymore. The book's companion is the "Fighting Ships of WWII" and my comments for that book are the same.

not to bad of a book

this is a book that goes into very deep technical specifications from mid to closing of world war 2.
this book has some diagrams of some planes this book is large the picture that you see on the first page on the frontal part book is different.
if your looking for early war aircraft specifications i highly recommend that you buy the book (aircraft of WWII by Stewart Wilson)
i was not disappointed at all by ether purchase
