About the Author
Robin Norwood is a licensed marriage, family and child therapist in private practice. She specialises in treating unhealthy patterns of relating in love relationships, as well as addiction, co-addiction, compulsive eating, and depression. She lives with her husband in Santa Barbara, California.

Wisdom from An Exceptional Woman, Author and Teacher

I've been a big fan of Robin Norwood's work ever since I first read her classic work, "Women Who Love Too Much". That book was instrumental in bringing the topic of relationship addiction into the mainstream.
Her work has been vital to my own healing from dysfunctional relationships. Norwood has been a marriage, family and child therapist, who specialized in the treatment of chemical dependency and codependency.
Her success after her publication of "Women Who Love Too Much" was followed by a series of traumas. She experienced a divorce and a life-threatening illness. While convalescing, Norwood entered into seven years of isolation and reflection. That period of her life gave birth to this book.
She began to read books on astrology, palmistry, tarot, healing and reincarnation. She notes she was finally exploring in earnest what she'd always believed to be the correct focus of psychology: the study
(-ology) of the soul (psyche).
Gradually, her worldview shifted. As she continued to study, she began to realize that our life on earth is about learning, evolving and growing spiritually through our experiences.
On p. 11, she writes, "When we can use whatever difficulties we have experienced in order to help others, then all our suffering and struggles are raised up and given purpose and dignity even beyond ourselves."
On p.204, she offers some guidelines for healing ourselves:
* Always look for the gift in adversity.
* Never indulge in self-pity.
* Never blame anyone else for your problems.
* Cultivate an attitude of gratitude.
* Seek opportunities to serve.
* Learn to regard death as a healing.
There is so much wisdom and depth in this book that is quite hard to describe it. It is a book that I'll return to often, especially if I'm feeling confused, discouraged, depressed, and need comfort. It gives the best insights into life that I have found in my quest to understand why I'm here.
Robin Norwood has given so much of herself to millions around the world, and her work has personally been a remarkable gift to me. She is one of my heroines. I highly recommend this book, as well as all of her others!!

A Compassionate Guide for Life's Questions

Robin Norwood offers her readers clear compassionate insight into the many purposes of life on earth. The vignettes in this book open up a range of possibilities for rethinking any circumstance in your life. A death is seen as an agreement that has been made to fufill a karmic bond and when seen through this light, the circumstances can be viewed with a different understanding that perhaps allows more peace. A personality trait or skill that a person posesses may be the main issue the soul has chosen to work on in this life to evolve and expand. A relationship that causes great grief may be the perfect reflection of where we are wounded and helps to "wake us up." Life on earth is all about learning, evolving and expanding. There are no bad experiences when seen in this light, it is all perfect and always evolving. Every experience moves us into the next phase of our evolvement and if we can recognize where we are wounded by our experiences and move past the wound we can choose not to experience that circumstance again. A really beautiful, helpful and insightful book.

A book to re-read and treasure

I was astounded to read that this unique book is out of print. Norwood, author of "Women Who Love Too Much," takes a radically different turn here. She recounts her seven-year period of solitude, study and contemplation, and the result is a spiritual gift to readers. She touches on any number of personal crises that almost anyone can identify with and introduces some very thought-provoking theories of her own. A small book, densely packed with wisdom and sane perspective. I bought several copies to give to friends, but I'll never part with my own. This book, as the author herself advises, should be re-read over and over: each time, you gain a new perspective that make the book richer and richer. Try to find this book--it's worth the effort.
